Inspiring our Future Innovators
Exploding bikes and an on stage demo were on the cards for our latest presentation.
Krissi and Dan headed to Tauranga Boys’ College to talk business and innovation. Using the development journey of the Ubco 2×2 dual electric drive motorbike as a case study, the team took the boys through what it takes to develop a concept that works, and deliver it to market successfully.
They also dove into how the commercialisation and manufacturing process works and threw the forum open for a Q&A session with the young innovators.
“Locus Research (both Dan and Krissi) were great to deal with,” said Tauranga Boys’ teacher Aaron Leech. “They went above and beyond what I originally thought they would do. They came into Tauranga Boys’ College and gave a greatly informative, engaging and educational presentation on the process behind the Ubco bike. It was directly relevant to what the students are studying now and will give them a good grasp behind what is needed to bring a concept into the market place.”
The event was organised with Jill Beedie and Lyn Parlane from Priority 1, who, through the InStep programme, work hard to bring students and industry together. With this and the YIA programme, they aim to give students insight into what it takes to innovate in the real world. Find out more about YIA here.
